_SuM41_

Hiiiiiii!!!!!!I would like to tell you about my favorite band Sum 41!!!!!))))

This Canadian pop punk quartet broke through in the US charts in 2001 with their second album, All Killer No Filler. Sum 41 was formed in Ajax, Ontario in 1996 by teenagers Deryck Whibley (b. 21 March 1980, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada; vocals/guitar) and Steve Jocz (b. Stephen Martin Jocz, 23 July 1981, Ajax, Ontario, Canada; drums). Dave Baksh (b. 26 July 1980, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; guitar) and Cone McCaslin (b. Jason McCaslin, 3 September 1980, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; bass) were recruited to complete the line-up, with the band taking their unusual moniker from the fact that they were formed 41 days into the summer. The quartet created a stir on the local scene with their playful antics and energetic live performances, which in turn attracted the attention of several major labels looking to cash in on the commercial success of poppy hardcore bands such as Blink-182 and the Bloodhound Gang.

Sum 41 signed to the independent label Aquarius in Canada, but opted for Island Records in the USA. Their 2000 debut, Half Hour Of Power, helped establish their reputation for snappy pop melodies and puerile lyrics. All Killer No Filler repeated the formula, albeit with a better production sound, and was buoyed by the success of singles "Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep" on US radio. They adopted a more streamlined hard rock sound on the follow-ups Does This Look Infected? (2002) and Chuck (2004), with diminishing returns. Baksh left the band in May 2006 to concentrate on his Brown Brigade project.

Blink-182 Biography

Tom Delonge - Vocals/Guitar

Mark Hoppus - Vocals/Bass

Travis Barker - Drums

Over the years Southern California has given the world some great bands, and in 1992 San Diego gave us Blink-182...an up and coming punk band, with something in their music people wanted to hear.

Shortly known as just Blink, the guys(Tom Delonge, vocals/guitar: Mark Hoppus, vocals/Bass: and Scott Raynor, Drums) were forced to add the purely random number 182 to avoid a lawsuit by an Irish band also called Blink. Some fans swear 182 is the first number to pop into their minds, and others claim it is the number of times Al Pacino says Fuck in the film 'Scarface'----Whatever the reason, we love the number!!!!!

In the fall of '92 the band self-released a demo called Flyswatter, which caught the attention of a record label. By '94 they had released their first album Buddha (later re-released in '98), which was not much of a success; but later in the year they signed with Grilled Cheese (a division of Cargo Music). They then promptly released their second album Cheshire Cat. Soon they were being featured on skate, surf, and snowboarding videos. They also were included on the popular Warped Tour, along with bands like pennywise, MxPx, and Reel Big Fish.

Finally hard work paid off in 1997 with the release of Dude Ranch. Other than just making them better known, the album caught the attention of larger record labels. MCA signed them in a joint effort with Cargo Music in anticipation for their next album being bigger.

Unfortunately during this merge the band experienced a transition that would luckily not hurt them. Scott Raynor made the decision to continue his education, and left the band for college. Travis Barker (formerly of the Aquabats) joined as the new and very talented drummer. Of course he was just in time for the the next album release. The world got a taste of the new Blink-182 in the summer of 1999.

The album was titled Enema of the State, which went multi platinum world wide; and won them the 2000 MTV best group video for 'All the Small Things'.

There was no doubt that Blink-182 had arrived! The band quickly followed up the 400 million copies success of Enema of the State, with a limited edition, Live album called 'The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show (the enema strikes back)' in the fall of 2000.

In a whirlwind of success the guys released the cleverly titled Take off Your Pants and Jacket, in the summer of 2001. The album debuted at No. 1 on the 200 album chart. After touring world wide, the every energized band returned once more to the studio ready to work on their next album. It eventually took over two years to complete, and was released in October 2003.

The self-titled album shows us a more mature Blink-182, with songs of heartache, problems, and basically life; but still included the the signature riffs associated with the band. Blink-182 has proven (when not many bands can) that though they have matured and become a bit more serious with their music; they haven't lost the status of rowdy rockers with quirky lyrics, and off-the-charts sense of humor and entertainment.

The band (still residing in Southern California) keeps us all on the edge of our seats waiting to see what will happen next; and wondering when we will be able to add another album to the ever so listened to CD's we all keep close to our players!!!

Blink-182, once the inspired, has now over the years become the inspiration. Inspiration for all those guys and girls out there who are willing to pick up a guitar (or sit behind a drum set), and pull together a band!!

GREEN DAY

Green Day is an American rock trio formed in 1987. The band has consisted of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass guitar, vocals), and Tré Cool (drums, percussion) for the majority of its existence.

Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Its early releases for independent record label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, its major label debut Dookie (1994) became a breakout success and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone, and 15 million copies sold worldwide. As a result, Green Day was widely credited, alongside fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States. Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum, and gold status respectively. Green Day's 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling five million copies in the U.S. The band's eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, is expected to be released in spring 2009.

Green day has sold over 65 million records worldwide,[citation needed] including 22 million in the United States alone. They have won three Grammy Awards; Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot, and Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

Band members

Music style and influences

Green Day's sound is often compared to first wave punk bands such as the Ramones, The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, and the Buzzcocks. The majority of their song catalog is composed of distorted guitar, fast, manic drums, and relatively high-treble bass. Most of their songs are fast-paced and under four minutes. Billie Joe Armstrong has mentioned that some of his biggest influences are seminal alternative rock bands Hüsker Dü and The Replacements, and that their influence is particularly noted in the band's chord changes in songs. In fact, Green Day has covered Hüsker Dü's "Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely" as a b-side for the "Warning" single, and the character "Mr. Whirly" in their song "Misery" is a reference to the Replacements song of the same name. Among other influences, Green Day have also cited Queen, and proto-punks The Who. Armstrong's lyrics commonly describe alienation, ("Jesus of Suburbia", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Road to Acceptance", "Disappearing Boy", "Castaway") hysteria ("Basket Case", "Panic Song"), girls ("She", "80" "Only of You","Maria" "She's a Rebel"), growing up (Longview and Welcome to Paradise), and the effects of doing drugs ("Geek Stink Breath", "Green Day"). The Ramones had similar lyrical themes such as hysteria ("Anxiety", "Psycho Therapy"), alienation ("Outsider", "Something To Believe In"), girls ("I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker"), and drugs ("Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue", "Chinese Rocks"). Green Day has covered Ramones songs several times, including recording "Outsider" for the tribute album We're a Happy Family, and performing "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Teenage Lobotomy" when the Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the most notable being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990.

With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from the band's second album Nevermind (1991), Nirvana entered into the mainstream, bringing along with it a subgenre of alternative rock called grunge. Other Seattle grunge bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden also gained popularity, and as a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre on radio and music television in the United States during the early-to-mid-1990s. As Nirvana's frontman, Kurt Cobain found himself referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation", with Nirvana the "flagship band" of Generation X. Cobain was uncomfortable with the attention and placed his focus on the band's music, believing the band's message and artistic vision to have been misinterpreted by the public, challenging the band's audience with its third studio album In Utero (1993).

Nirvana's brief run ended with Cobain's death in April 1994, but the band's popularity continued in the years that followed. In 2002, "You Know You're Right", an unfinished demo from the band's final recording session, topped radio play lists around the world. Since their debut, the band has sold over twenty-five million albums in the US alone, and over fifty million worldwide.

Breakthrough success

Disenchanted with Sub Pop and with the Smart Studios sessions generating interest, Nirvana decided to look for a deal with a major record label. Following repeated recommendations by Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, Nirvana signed to DGC Records in 1990. The band subsequently began recording its first major label album, Nevermind. They were offered a number of producers to choose from, but ultimately held out for Butch Vig. Rather than recording at Vig's Madison studio as they had in 1990, they shifted to Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California. For two months, the band worked through a variety of songs in their catalog. Some of the songs, including "In Bloom" and "Breed", had been in the band's repertoire for years, while others, including "On a Plain" and "Stay Away", lacked finished lyrics until mid-way through the recording process. After the recording sessions were completed, Vig and the band set out to mix the album. However, the recording sessions had run behind schedule and the resulting mixes were deemed unsatisfactory. Slayer mixer Andy Wallace was brought in to create the final mix. After the album's release members of Nirvana expressed dissatisfaction with the polished sound the mixer had given Nevermind.

Initially, DGC Records was hoping to sell 250,000 copies of Nevermind, which was the same level they had achieved with Sonic Youth's Goo. However, the album's first single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" quickly gained momentum, thanks in part to significant airplay of the song's music video on MTV. As they toured Europe during late 1991, the band found that the shows were dangerously oversold, that television crews were becoming a constant presence onstage, and that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was almost omnipresent on radio and music television. By Christmas 1991, Nevermind was selling 400,000 copies a week in the US. On January 11, 1992, the album reached number one on the Billboard album charts, replacing Michael Jackson's album Dangerous. The album also topped the charts in numerous countries worldwide. The month Nevermind reached number one, Billboard proclaimed, "Nirvana is that rare band that has everything: critical acclaim, industry respect, pop radio appeal, and a rock-solid college/alternative base."

In February 1992, following the band's Pacific Rim tour, Cobain married Hole frontwoman Courtney Love in Hawaii. Love gave birth to a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, the following August. Citing exhaustion, the band decided not to undertake another U.S. tour in support of Nevermind, instead opting to make only a handful of performances later that year. Just days after Frances Bean's birth, Nirvana performed one of its best-known concerts, headlining at the Reading Festival in England. Amid rumors about Cobain's health and the possibility the band might break up, Cobain entered the stage in a wheelchair as a practical joke, then proceeded to get up and join the rest of the band in tearing through an assortment of old and new material.Dave Growl related in 2005 on the radio program Loveline that the band was genuinely concerned beforehand that the show would be a complete disaster, given all that had happened in the months leading up to the show. Instead, the performance ended up being one of the most memorable of their career.

Less than two weeks later, Nirvana performed at the MTV Video Music Awards. During the first rehearsal for the show, Cobain announced that they were going to play a new song during the broadcast, and the band rehearsed "Rape Me". MTV's executives were appalled by the song, and, according to show producer Amy Finnerty, the executives believed that the song was about them. They insisted that the band could not play "Rape Me", even threatening to throw Nirvana off the show and stop airing their videos entirely. After a series of intense discussions, MTV and Nirvana agreed that the band would play "Lithium", their latest single. When the band began their performance, Cobain strummed and sang the first few bars of "Rape Me", one last jab at MTV's executives, before breaking into "Lithium". Near the end of the song, frustrated that his amp had stopped functioning, Novoselic decided to toss his bass into the air for dramatic effect. He misjudged the landing, and the bass ended up bouncing off his forehead, causing him to stumble off the stage in a daze. As Cobain trashed their equipment, Grohl ran to the mic and began yelling "Hi, Axl!" repeatedly, referring to Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose, with whom the band and Courtney had had a bizarre encounter before the show.

Nirvana released Incesticide, a collection of rarities and B-sides, in December 1992. Many of Nirvana's radio sessions and unreleased early recordings were starting to circulate via trading circles and illegal bootlegs, so the album served to circumvent the bootleggers. The album contained songs from previously released singles and EPs, including "Sliver" and "Dive", as well as material from the band's sessions for the BBC, including "Been a Son", "Aneurysm", and covers of songs by The Vaselines and Devo.

Final months and Cobain's death

In November 1993, Nirvana performed for MTV Unplugged. The band opted to stay away from their most recognizable songs, playing only two of their hits, "All Apologies" and "Come as You Are". Grohl later related, "We knew we didn't want to do an acoustic version of Teen Spirit. ... That would've been horrendously stupid." The setlist also included a few relatively obscure covers, with members of the Meat Puppets joining the band for covers of three of their songs. While rehearsals for the show had been problematic, MTV Unplugged producer Alex Coletti noted that the actual taping went exceedingly well, with every song performed in one take and with the complete set lasting under an hour, which were both unusual for Unplugged sessions. Following the band's set-ending performance of Lead Belly's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night", Coletti tried to convince the band to perform an encore. "Kurt said, 'I can't top that last song.' And when he said that, I backed off. 'Cause I knew he was right." The band's performance debuted on MTV on December 14, 1993.

In early 1994, the band embarked on a European tour. Following a tour stop at Terminal Eins in Munich, Germany, on March 1, Cobain was diagnosed with bronchitis and severe laryngitis.[44] The next night's show, at the same venue, was canceled. In Rome, on the morning of March 4, Love found Cobain unconscious in their hotel room and he was rushed to the hospital. A doctor from the hospital told a press conference that Cobain had reacted to a combination of prescription Rohypnol and alcohol. The rest of the tour was canceled, including a planned leg in the UK.

In the ensuing weeks, Cobain's heroin addiction resurfaced. An intervention was organized, and Cobain was convinced to admit himself into drug rehabilitation. After less than a week in rehabilitation, Cobain climbed over the wall of the facility and took a plane back to Seattle. A week later, on Friday, April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head at his Seattle home, effectively dissolving Nirvana.

The World Health Organization is pointing out that smoking is on the rise in the world as more and more countries develop. The young in these countries are able to afford to buy cigarettes for the first time and are getting addicted.

While smoking is down in many of the developed countries, more and more tobacco companies are finding that the new, unregulated markets are ripe for the seizing. The World Health Organization believes that it is the responsibility of these countries to educate their population about the dangers of smoking.

There are many that are coming forward to explain that one of the reasons why smoking is on the rise in newly developing countries is that these countries do not have the money to throw behind anti-smoking campaigns. They point out that these counties do not have anti-smoking regulations as a very important issue as their countries strive to compete in the world market.

The World health organization is pointing out that there are currently 5.4 million people a year that die from smoking in the world. The Organization believes that this number will grow to 8.3 million within the next twenty years.

The World health Organization believes that that nations of the world should place ban son cigarette ads, and make it illegal to smoke in public buildings. They believe that if this is done worldwide, then 200 million lives san be saved from smoking related deaths by the year 2050.

The World Health Organization believes that the countries that have taken drastic measures in the past against smoking have been able to save countless lives over the last few years. They believe that these countries should be role models for the rest of the world.

TOKIO HOTEL

Forgotten Children lyrics

Just a normal day
Streets turn into graves
Traces have been removed
The search was disapproved
So cold the night
The weak ones lose the fight
Too many of them out there
Noone seems to care

Lost and so alone
Born but never known
Left all on their own
Forgotten children
We'll never hear a name
They carry all the blame
Too young to break the chains
Forgotten children

They see, they feel, believe
Just like we do
They're laughing, and crying
Wanna live here
Like me and you

Eyes without light
Too tired of good-byes
Never felt embraced
And frightened of every face
A life in disguise
Hope forever died

Lost and so alone
Born but never known
Left all on their own
Forgotten children
We'll never hear a name
They carry all the blame
Too young to break the chains
Forgotten children

They see, they feel, believe
Just like we do
The're laughing and crying
Wanna live here
Like me and you

It shouldn't really be that way
It shouldn't really be that way

We see, we feel, believe
Just like you
We're laughing and crying
Wanna live here
We see, we feel, believe
Just like you
We're laughing and crying
Wanna live here
Just like you...

1000 Meere lyrics

Die Straßen leer
Ich dreh mich um
Die Nacht hat mich verloren
Ein kalter Wind
Die Welt erstarrt
Die Sonne ist erfroren
Dein Bild ist sicher
Ich trag’s in mir
Über 1000 Meere
Zurück zu dir
Zurück zu uns
Wir dürfen unseren Glauben nicht verlieren
Vertrau mir

Wir müssen nur noch 1000 Meere weit
Durch 1000 dunkle Jahre ohne zeit
1000 Sterne zieh’n vorbei

1000 Meere weit
1000 Jahre ohne Zeit
Noch 1000 Meere weit
1000 Sterne zieh’n vorbei
Vorbei
Lass dich zu mir treiben
Ich lass mich zu dir treiben

Wir müssen nur noch 1000 Meere weit
Durch 1000 dunkle Jahre ohne zeit
1000 Sterne zieh’n vorbei
Wir müssen nur noch 1000 Meere weit
Noch 1000-mal durch die Unendlichkeit
Dann sind wir frei

Lass dich zu mir treiben
Ich lass mich zu dir treiben
1000 Meere weit...

GOTHS
Someone who likes the darker side of things. They usually listen to death metal and goth music, such as Dismember and Bauhaus. Marilyn Manson is NOT goth. He's just...weird. Real goths are not depressing and suicidal like the posers you see at Hot Topic. Goths are fun to be around and aren't afraid to laugh at themselves every so often. They don't worship Satan and aren't evil despite what some ignorant people might say. Goths don't all dress alike either. They like to create their own unique style. Goths are also very intelligent and creative. A lot of them are writers and artists. Goths DON'T envy the popular people. They are what they are because it makes them happy. Goths would rather stay who they are and be among the so called "freaks" than be like everyone else and be popular. They understand that there are more important things in life than popularity, and usually succeed in life while the popular ones don't become much of anything.

If someone becomes "goth" because they couldn't get any friends or are depressed and angry all the time, they are most likely a poser.

SKA

Three different types: "Traditional", "2-Tone" and "3rd Wave". Traditional came about in the late 1950s as new dance music straight out of Jamaica. 2-Tone is named such because whites and blacks came together to form ska bands to spread unity in the 1970s. 3rd Wave is when ska hit America in the late 1980s, and added a bit of punk flair.

Also a very flexible style of music, incorporateable into other styles, which is why it's still around today and has such a large and diverse fan base.
